The summer of 2017 started and ended strong for ALS Double Play. We held our second annual Intentional Walk for ALS at the Markham Civic Centre on Saturday, June 10. It was another beautiful day, attended by a couple hundred of our friends. We walked a round around a sign lined route at the Civic Centre - ensuring that people noticed the crowd and the cause!
From July 14 to 16 we were pleased to participate in Power Unit Youth Organization's annual Night It Up night market. We were proud to be chosen earlier this year as the event's beneficiary. We worked with volunteers all weekend long to give out candy, take photos, and raise awareness of ALS. Reel Asian Film Festival even showed our short film, My Son, Christopher before each film they screened that weekend!
Little Abby has been asking to have a lemonade stand to help the poor and give to ALS for over a year. Her mother finally relented and Abby used her brother's birthday party as leverage to get people to her lemonade stand. Abby raised over $150 dollars in one afternoon, donating $75 to ALS Double Play! Way to go Abby!
On August 12 we enjoyed a baseball game at the Rogers Centre as the Blue Jays took on the Pittsburgh Pirates! Not only did our boys in blue take the win, we had a great time with all our friends that came!
Then some great friends of ours, Helen and Tam Pham got married and in lieu of gifts for their guests, they made a donation to ALS Double Play and another charity that was close to their hearts.
Lastly, we closed summer off with our first Spike ALS Beach Volleyball tournament at Beach Blast, where our inspiration, Christopher Chiu spent many Thursday Nights playing in a league. It was a fun day for all and we look forward to running the event again next year!
